Amy Winehouse 2

Huug bought me a dvd of Amy Winehouse for my birthday, and we looked at it this weekend. It's a live concert from Shepherd's bush Empire, London. Great stuff, even the kids liked it.
This woman is so enchanting, she's a devil and an angel at the same time.

Robbie Williams 2

I did so many digital caricatures the last period, that I wanted to post a 'real' sketch. Just pencil on paper. Always good to go back to the basics. I made a caricature of Robbie back in February, so if anybody is interested they can see if there any differences, and if I did better or worse this time.

Last Thursday I had to work as a digital caricaturist in Paris. This doesn't happen very often, most of the time I stay in Holland. It was fun being there with Miriam, who was my "technical assistant" (she made the buttons). And it was even more special because it was my birthday!
I was very well treated, with a lovely dinner and some gifts from Harold's cartoonshop.
All caricatures that I did that day can be seen on the site of Company Comics.

...and under the Eiffel tower.

It can be difficult to draw your next of kin, especially if you have a brother like I do. That's not his fault, but our parents'.
He just doesn't have any specific features. I don't either, ask the dozens of caricaturists who have been trying to portray me in the last few years. (ofcourse there are exceptions)
He got 50 last friday and I wanted to give him something personal. But I believe I did 3 or 4 versions of his head.
I don't think this is a caricature by the way, it's more a retro-style illustration, a tiny bit inspired by Erik Kriek and Chris Wahl.

This is Debbie, member of the NCN. I met her in Reno, she's a very sweet person. This caricature is mainly an exercise in drawing motors. I don't really like stuff like that (cars, motors, etc.) I'm more into organic forms. But I like the result.

Sixth Star

So I won the first prize for best retail/party style in Reno, and together with that came a vacation on a cruise. Well, vacation, I don't know if you have to put it that way. It was more like a working vacation, they wanted to hire me as a caricaturist but I had to work for just two hours a day.
I could choose the cruise that I wanted but I had to pay for the journey to the departure place myself.
And I could take one guest with me but no kids under 16 were allowed on the cruise....
Can you believe that! So this means that either you have to have no kids, or they have to be old enough to join. In Holland we say: "Een sigaar uit eigen doos", perhaps this can be translated with 'dutch treat' or something, I don't know.
Sure, we can put our kids away for one week. But they would be sooooooooooo disappointed.
Their first reaction when they heard that I had won a cruise was: "WE are going on a cruise!"
Kids are like that.
I responded to Sixth Star that I was honoured to be part of the Sixth Star family but they had to wait for another 10 years or so before they could see me work on one of their ships.
Meanwhile, to get rid of this negative feeling, I made these two cartoons.

For five minutes or so we considered this to be an option too.
